PeopleSoft - Student Information System

WHAT IS PEOPLESOFT?
NYIT is replacing its Datatel student information system (SIS) with PeopleSoft, a web-based, integrated enterprise SIS management system. Advantages of the new PeopleSoft system include:

  • strengthened, self-service experience available from anywhere, at any time, using most browsers
  • new, innovative technology that enhances the user experience while providing improved security
  • a "one-stop shop" for students to register for courses; get schedules; view items such grades, unofficial transcripts, and financial aid information; and pay their tuition online

WHAT IS A STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (SIS)?
It houses student-related information such as schedules, courses, grades, records, transcripts, and financial information.

WHO WILL BE AFFECTED?
Students, faculty, and staff in all academic areas and departments; student enrollment offices that currently use Datatel and NYITConnect will convert to PeopleSoft.

WHEN ARE WE MAKING THIS CHANGE?
All aspects of student information will be converted to People Soft by August 2014. Datatel will be used to complete processing for the 2013-14 academic year, with Spring 2014 being the last term in Datatel. PeopleSoft will be used to complete processing for 2014-2015 and after (Summer 2014 and Fall 2014 registration will be in PeopleSoft), using the following timeline:

  • Admissions – August 2013 (Applications for Fall 2014)
  • Financial Aid – February 2014 (For Fall 2014)
  • Student Records – February 2014 (For Fall 2014 registration)
  • Student Financials – February 2014 (For Fall 2014 student billing and fees)
  • Academic Advising – March 2014 (For Fall 2014)

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO ME?

  • IF YOU ARE A STUDENT: You'll have a new and improved, web-accessible, self-service portal that organizes services such as registration; viewing financial aid; billing and advisement

  • IF YOU ARE A FACULTY MEMBER: Class schedules, final attendance and class rosters, advisement and grading will all be available in an easy-to-use web interface

  • IF YOU ARE AN ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATOR: You will use the intuitive navigation in PeopleSoft, to accomplish day-to-day and self-service tasks in a more streamlined and efficient manner

  • IF YOU ARE A STAFF MEMBER: You will receive extensive training to learn the procedures to do your specific job using PeopleSoft's extensive toolset

HOW WILL I LEARN PEOPLESOFT?
In some areas, hands-on training will occur as part of the conversion, while others may only need to review the online materials that will be posted here. Additional details regarding online tutorials and documentation will be announced soon.
