NYIT Mosaic

The NYIT MOSAIC Living and Learning Community's mission is to promote and engage an active community of learners who wish to gain cultural awareness, understanding and respect for other societies at the local and global level with the hope of developing “idea centers”. 

NYIT MOSAIC residential experience unites students of diverse backgrounds and internationally-oriented goals. Students explore current global issues and emerging social concerns through a combination of academic work, community-based service opportunities and Co-curricular activities. Domestic students (host) will apply to be in the NYIT MOSAIC program after completing 12 credits at NYIT. International Students will be assigned to housing in the traditional process.

SGA Student Satisfaction Survey iPad Winner Receives Prize

Erik Cabrera (first year, Computer Science major) was excited to receive his prize on Monday, April 22, after being randomly selected as the winner of an iPad Mini upon completing the Old Westbury 2013 SGA Student Life Satisfaction Survey.

Student Government Association President, Robert Hammarberg, put together a student satisfaction survey to gather feedback about improvements that could be made on the Old Westbury campus. The survey was comprised of 32 questions discussing topics ranging from on assessing student pride, SGA satisfaction, event participation and faculty connectivity. It was sent out to all 3,443 students of NYIT-Old Westbury and open for a period of two weeks. 777 students responded by the time the survey closed.

Students who participated in the survey had the option of entering themselves in a drawing to win a brand new iPad. Erik Cabrera was randomly selected as the winner. When Erik came to retrieve his prize, he stated how he was happy to take part in the survey. There is a hefty amount of data and comments to analyze, which President Hammarberg has already begun to do and will prepare for the next SGA President to take on. He looks forward to seeing the changes suggested by student participants over the next come to life. President Hammarberg would like to thank everyone who participated in the survey and encourages everyone to look out for next year’s spring survey!

Old Westbury Resident Check-Out

All Residents MUST check out 24 hours after their last exam or on Friday, May 17, 2013 — no later than 6 p.m. — whichever is first!

Student Checklist before leaving:

• Each resident MUST schedule a check-out appointment with HRL staff (HRA, RA) in the hall.

NYIT Bear Communities

NYIT Bear Communities are housing options for returning residential students who wish to build community and live with each other while exploring a theme, common interest, and/ or passion. Residents in a BC area apply to be part of these unique communities and are offered special programs and opportunities to teach others about their interests, strengths, and passions.

BCs are a great opportunity for students to gain leadership skills, share their knowledge with others, and live with people who hold similar values. NYIT Bear Communities are different from other residential communities and halls because they allow students to further explore topics and causes important to them. NYIT Bear Communities will offer special related programs, and opportunities, which distinguish these communities from other housing. Read more..

Cap and Gown Deadline March 31

All participating graduates must wear academic regalia (cap and gown).

Cap and gowns will be distributed:

• On the Old Westbury campus from the NYIT Bookstore starting on Monday, May 6.
• On the Manhattan campus from the NYIT Bookstore starting on Monday, May 6.

• Commencement morning: The Old Westbury campus Bookstore will distribute regalia from a tent in the tennis courts, adajcent to Main Tent .

Spring Break 2013 Housing Applications Now Available

If you wish to stay in the residence halls during Spring Break, you must complete the Spring Break Housing Application.

Residents who fail to complete the form by stated date/time will incur a late application fee of $25 (charged to their NYIT account).

NYIT Spring Break begins Friday, March 15 at 6 p.m. and ends Sunday, March 24 at noon.

Please note, there will be limited shuttle bus service between SUNY and NYIT during the Spring Break.  Regular bus service to NYIT will resume on Monday, March 25 at 7 a.m.

Food Service will be limited during the Spring Break.

Resident Student Check Out

Checklist Before Leaving:

• Check out with an RA in your building (avoid a bill)
• Clean and sweep your room (avoid a bill)
• Take all trash to the dumpsters (avoid a bill)
• Unplug, defrost, and prop open the door of all refrigerators (avoid a bill)
• Unplug all electrical items (i.e., lamps)
• Open blinds
• Close and lock windows
• Take your valuable items with you
• Lock your door and return your key to your RA (avoid a bill)

Check-out will take place in your hall:

• Friday, Dec.14 - Thursday, Dec. 20, 9 a.m. - 10 p.m.
• Friday, Dec. 21, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

SGA Student Satisfaction Survey iPad Winner Receives Prize

Antonio Figueroa (third year, Health Science major) was excited to receive his prize on Friday, June 8, after being randomly selected as the winner of an iPad upon completing the Old Westbury 2012 SGA Student Life Satisfaction Survey.

Student Government Association President, Robert Hammarberg, put together a student satisfaction survey to gather feedback about improvements that could be made on the Old Westbury campus. The survey was comprised of 20 questions discussing topics ranging from on campus dining to accessing student pride. It was sent out to all 4,698 students of NYIT-Old Westbury and open for a period of two weeks. An astounding 1,229 students responded by the time the survey closed.

Students who participated in the survey had the option of entering themselves in a drawing to win a brand new iPad. Antonio Figueroa was randomly selected as the winner. When Antonio came to retrieve his prize, he stated how he was happy to take part in the survey. There is a hefty amount of data and comments to analyze, which President Hammarberg has already begun to do and looks forward to making changes suggested by student participants over the next year in his second term as SGA President. He would like to thank everyone who participated in the survey!
