An internship is a supervised learning experience designed to broaden a student’s knowledge. It allows a student to explore career options, provides on the job training, and encourages mentorship. The Career Services department will assist any qualified student in obtaining and maintaining an internship.
Students earn academic credit while helping to design and build sets, make costumes, plan publicity, and perform in the department's two productions each year. The theatre program, founded in 1988, has staged plays as wide ranging as Sophocles's Antigone to modern musicals such as Pippin. In addition, students in their last two years of study can work with NYIT's resident professional acting company, A Small Company in America. This group stages four plays a year from an eclectic repertoire.
Creative expression and undergraduate research with faculty members has become an integral part of a student's educational experience at New York Institute of Technology. The SOURCE is intended to provide a unique opportunity for students to present their research and creative scholarly work in collaboration with faculty members and mentors.
In its second year, the SOURCE has sponsored well over 100 presentations, artistic exhibitions and scholarly papers, each one the product of NYIT undergraduate student achievement and effort.
