Information Session About New ‘Minor in Energy Science, Technology and Policy’  Time: 4:00 - 6:00pm

NYIT has a new Minor in Energy Science, Technology and Policy which enables students in all majors to develop “green skills” in their chosen field. Many employers are seeking to reduce their “carbon footprint” and promote cleaner, more efficient technologies which are less harmful to the environment.

The School of Engineering and Computing Sciences of NYIT, in partnership with the Long Island Alternative Energy Consortium (LIAEC), has been awarded a grant to establish a multidisciplinary, multi-campus minor. Students who enroll in the minor will benefit from partnerships between academic institutions, private industry, college and government laboratories, and legislative offices.

Key resources include the Energy and Green Technologies Laboratory at NYIT, which is one of three labs in the Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Center (ETIC). Projects at NYIT include solar carports, plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV), and the Long Island Carbon Footprint Project.  Demonstration projects are underway at partner institutions such as Stony Brook University and Farmingdale State College which focus on smart grid technology, building automation, solar energy, small scale wind power, geothermal heat pumps, green data centers, and alternative fuel vehicles.

Declaring a minor is easy: Fill out the Application to Declare Undergraduate Minor form and then have it signed by Dr. Robert N. Amundsen, Director, Energy Management. For more information, contact Dr. Amundsen at (516) 686-7578 or by email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

The Move to a Single Accreditation Standard  Time: 10:00 am - 11:30 am

NYCOMEC is hosting a Faculty Development Program (approximately from 10:00am-11:30am)  in the Riland Auditorium at the NYIT Old Westbury Campus.

NYCOMEC is very excited to welcome Mr. Art Boll, CEO of Germane Solutions to speak to attendees about the agreement by the AOA, AACOM, and ACGME to move to a single accreditation standard by 2020 as it continues to move forward, the implications of this pending unification and how it may impact NYCOMEC and our Member Institutions.

This topic is something that Germane Solutions and their subject matter experts are looking at closely in order to understand the ramifications of the pending unification.  By doing so, they are preparing to support OPTIs and their member institutions in responding to the merger of the AOA and ACGME accreditation standards. The Germane team specializes in GME accreditation,  strategy, operations, and economics.  Their access to subject matter experts for both the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) allows them to leverage resources and connections within both accreditation worlds.

Please feel free to reach out to Randi Fox for more information or simply click here to register (required). You can also refer to the NYCOMEC July 15, 2014 Newsletter for more information.

If you are not associated with the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, but would like to attend, please contact Randi Fox at 516-686-1128 or email her
