About

Patricia Chute

Welcome to the School of Health Professions
Contributing to a healthier world

The School of Health Professions at the New York Institute of Technology, offers degrees on both the undergraduate and graduate level that allow graduates to practice in a variety of demanding and growing fields. The healthcare needs of the American population have increased substantially as new technologies coupled with greater demand pervades the nation.  Ensuring a workforce that is knowledgeable, talented, caring and committed is the goal of the programs at NYIT.  The resources available in the School of Health Professions support learning outcomes that have identified our former graduates as leaders in their respective fields.

The School and College are student centric and allow faculty to focus on the individual needs of our students in a manner that fosters success.  Our programs in nursing, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, occupational therapy or clinical nutrition will provide students with an education that goes beyond the classroom. The knowledge and skills acquired during the educational experience at NYIT provides our students with a foundation upon which there is constant growth.

The School of Health Professions is unique in that it has direct access to faculty in the College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Barbara Ross-Lee, the Vice President for Health Sciences and Medical Affairs, understands the importance of interdisciplinary study among the many departments that make up the Medical School and the School of Health Professions.  In addition to the affiliation with the Medical School, the School of Health Professions works closely with the Center for Gerontology and Geriatrics and the Center for Global Health.   The collaboration of faculty among these different entities provides students with an experience that cannot be gained elsewhere.

Our faculty represents some of the best and the brightest in their respective fields.  They are well published and are sought after as invited speakers for national, international and local conferences.  They have been successful in obtaining grants to support research and scholarships for students and continue to hone their craft through a combination of ongoing clinical and scholarly work.  They strive diligently in the classroom to ensure the best student learning outcomes.

The students in the School are diverse and talented individuals who are both traditional as well as those returning to higher education to explore a second career.  Each program provides opportunities for student research, presentation and publication.  Their experiences bring them into local communities and expose them to populations that range from premature infants to the elderly, from underserved settings to high income facilities.  They work in teams within their own field as well as with other fields in the health professions as the focus on interprofessional education expands.

If you are interested in any of our programs, please feel free to stop by my office for more information. We are here to share our expertise. We are here to share our experiences. We are here to share our stories. We’re here. Join us.
