NYIT Alert: H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu)

NYIT is carefully monitoring information about the H1N1 flu (swine flu) as it pertains to our community members worldwide, and preparing for the fall flu season.

Each of our campuses is operating under normal conditions, and all events are being held as scheduled. All NYIT students, faculty, and staff should follow these precautions to minimize their exposure and to prevent the spread of any illness:

  • Wash hands thoroughly and often with soap and water (or alcohol-based hand cleanser), and especially after being out in public.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your arm - not your hand.
  • Keep hands away for your face, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Clean shared space often - including phones, keyboards, steering wheels, and office equipment.
  • Stay away from obviously sick people.
  • Stay home from school or work if you are sick.

If any NYIT faculty, staff, and students in New York are exposed to a communicable disease, they should immediately call one of NYIT's Academic Health Care Centers at 516.686.1300 or 631.348.3254. They should state they have been exposed to or have a communicable disease and follow the Health Care Center's instructions.

Students on New York campuses who are feeling anxious about the situation are encouraged to call the Office of Counseling and Wellness Services at 516.686.7976 or 212.261.1770. The American Psychological Association offers useful information on its "Managing Your Anxiety About Swine Flu" Web page.
