Withdrawal from a Course

The decision to withdraw from a course should be made ONLY after you consult with your course instructor and faculty advisor and determine how it affects your eligibility for financial aid by reviewing NYIT’s online withdrawal brochure (PDF).

To withdraw from a course, the student and the class instructor must complete a withdrawal form and the instructor must submit it to the Office of the Registrar within 48 hours. Students cannot withdraw from classes during final exam periods. The type of withdrawal grade assigned will be determined by the date of withdrawal and is outlined in the table below.

A Withdrawal (W) grade:

  • will be assigned to students who officially withdraw from a class according to the schedule below.
  • is not included in the computation of the grade point average
  • may affect eligibility for financial aid.

A Withdrawal Failing (WF) grade:

  • may be assigned if the student is failing the course or stopped attending class without officially withdrawing.
  • is a failing grade and is included in the computation of the grade point average
  • may affect eligibility for financial aid.
