The Central Advising Center at NYIT develops, promotes, and supports effective academic advising programs. NYIT students receive their primary advising from assigned faculty within their academic departments. The Central Advising Center supplements departmental academic advising initiatives.
With the assistance of information technology and videoconferencing, based on sound advising and teaching skills, the center provides timely and accurate information about NYIT academic requirements, policies, procedures, and resources. The center also provides students assistance with the inter-school transfer process and general advising.
What can the Central Advising Center do for you?
- We provide assistance with general advisement if you’re not yable to get in touch with your faculty advisor (or you don’t know who they are yet).
- We answer your questions if you’re thinking of changing your major.
- We clarify academic requirements, policies, and/or procedures as well as refer you to appropriate campus resources.
- We assist in the administration of Phi Eta Sigma, the freshman honor society, as well as the Golden Key International Honour Society, an honor society for juniors and seniors.
- We coordinate NYIT’s Majors Fair annually during which each academic department sends a faculty representative to answer your questions.
- We develop helpful resources for students that answer frequently asked questions.
