Architecture students Monique de Menezes, Saafa Alaoui, and Alexandra Aranova (pictured) impressed the judges of a Dec. 11 design competition with their vision for an entirely new urban district in a Bronx, N.Y., neighborhood in need of infrastructure renewal. As members of the first-place team Eco Armatures, they were among 65 students in the NYIT Community Design Studio whose semester-long project on the West Farms section of the Bronx culminated in presenting their designs in the juried competition, "Shaping the Split," at the Bronx Museum. Four other NYIT teams also won cash awards for their work, which featured affordable housing, commercial amenities, recreation venues, and open space.
NYIT thanks the jurors who offered their expertise for the design competition and the Friends of NYIT School of Architecture and Design for generously providing $1,500 in prize money to the award-winning student teams.
