NYIT Architecture Students Tour the Damage from Hurricane Sandy
School of Architecture and Design students have self-organized a group to help with the rebuilding effort on Long Island from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The students will be working with Nassau County Emergency Management officials, and several meetings will be held in preparation for a site tour of Long Beach and Island Park, N.Y. Upcoming events include:
Thursday, Dec. 6 at 12:30-2 p.m. - Operation Resilient Long Island: Workshop (what building departments require to start the rebuilding process). This meeting will be held at the Office of Career Services at NYIT's Manhattan and Old Westbury campuses.
Saturday, Dec. 8 at 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Tour of Long Beach A bus will leave Manhattan at 9:30 a.m. and pick up Old Westbury students from Education Hall at 10:30 a.m. The bus will arrive at 11:30 a.m. at 1 West Chester St. in Long Beach, N.Y.
Buildings Commissioner Scott Kemins will provide a brief history of the city including recent construction, give a tour of the devastation, and engage in a question-and-answer session.
