Just prior to the start of classes, you will attend an international student orientation session at the campus where you will be taking classes. It will give you an opportunity to meet other international students and find out information that is specific to international students, including how to obtain a social security number, how to open a bank account, how to get your international driver's license, how to obtain the immunizations you may still need, and how to maintain your F-1 status.
The date of this orientation will be mailed to you before you leave for the U.S. However, if you miss the first orientation, a second session is usually held during the second week of classes. If you have any questions, contact Barbara Multari, director of international education, at 516.686.7585 or email her at email@example.com.
