What are your international admissions requirements?

Learn about the admissions requirements for international students.

You may apply online or by mail. If you apply online the $50 application fee will be waived if you enter the code ASKNYITLT. To have an application packet sent to you, please email diwillia@nyit.edu.

Deadlines

In order to allow NYIT to properly review your credentials and provide you with time to complete the passport/visa process, we recommend you apply by the following deadlines:

Fall semester: by July 15
Spring semester: by Dec. 1

Requirements
In addition to the application, as an international applicant, you must submit:

Proof of English proficiency: All international students whose first language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam and submit official scores to the Office of Admissions. If you received your baccalaureate degree in the United States and can provide proof of your U.S. degree, or if you have already successfully completed English Composition at another institution, then the TOEFL or the IELTS are not required. If, however, you received your undergraduate degree from a foreign university, or if you have not completed English Composition, you are required to take the TOEFL exam.

TOEFL: A written-based score of 550, a computer-based score of 213, or an Internet-based score of 79/80 is required for full admission. If you score 500-549 on the written, 173-212 on the computerized, or 61-77/78 on the Internet-based, you may be required to study English as a Second Language before you can be fully matriculated into your academic program of choice. If you score below 500, 173 or 61, you may apply only to our English Language Institute (ELI) for additional instruction in English. NYIT’s TOEFL code is 2561.

IELTS: A test score on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) of 6 is required for full admission. If you score below a 6 but above a 5, you may be required to study English as a second language before you can be fully matriculated into your academic program of choice. If you score below a 5, you may apply to NYIT's English Language Institute for additional instruction in English. You may also retake the IELTS.

Transcripts from your secondary school. If they are in a language other than English, please have them officially translated by your consulate office or a translating company.
SAT exam scores if you wish to be considered for any academic scholarships/financial aid. For more information on SAT examinations, go to www.collegeboard.org. NYIT’s SAT code is 2561.
Two letters of recommendations and a one-page typed personal statement.
MBA applicants must submit GMAT score of 400 or above, and have an overall undergraduate GPA or 3.3 or above. NYIT’s GMAT Code OQN-RL-74 for part-time studies; OQN-RL-35 for full-time studies. Graduate applicants to engineering and computing sciences programs must submit scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). NYIT’s GRE code is 2561.

Visas
In order to receive the I-20 form to apply for the F-1 student visa at the U.S. embassy in your home country, you will need to have a sponsor complete an Affidavit of Support form. Along with that form, undergraduate applicants will need a bank statement from their sponsor's bank demonstrating that he or she has a minimum of approximately $33,000.00 (U.S.) in liquid assets (savings or checking account- not stocks, investment accounts, or property value). Graduate applicants will need a bank statement from your sponsor's bank demonstrating he or she has a minimum of approximately $25,000.00 (U.S.) in liquid assets (savings or checking account—not stocks, investment accounts, or property value). Please note that the affidavit of support must be notarized (stamped) by a bank or U.S. embassy official. It can also be signed and stamped by a lawyer, or a notary public.
