What can I do if my student is struggling with classes and needs a tutor? |
||||
NYIT has a Learning Center that is dedicated to providing academic tutorial support and skill-based workshops to students. Tutoring is offered in a broad range of courses, including mathematics, introductory sciences, engineering, core courses, architecture, and business subjects. Individual, small group, and walk-in tutoring is available free of charge. The center’s primary goal is to provide students with the skills and confidence they need to become independent learners, self directed and goal oriented.
Our tutors are highly qualified and trained NYIT undergraduate and graduate students who have been recommended by their professors. In addition to helping students with course content, tutors clarify instructions for course assignments, teach strategies for effective student and test preparation, provide peer advising, and serve as positive role models.
Tutoring may be conducted in individual or small group sessions. Sessions are usually one hour, except for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, which may require additional time. All tutoring takes place in the center during operation hours unless cleared with Learning Center staff.
