Nine baseball players set for summer action

Old Westbury, N.Y. (June 23, 2009) – Nine NYIT baseball student-athletes have been signed to play in NCAA sanctioned summer leagues this year.

Sophomore Effrey Valdez (Flushing, N.Y.) is currently playing for the Lowell All-Americans (www.lowellallamericans.com) in Lowell, Massachusetts, while junior Andrew Guarrassi (Long Island City, N.Y.) is currently playing for the Sanford Mainers (www.sanfordmainers.com) in Sanford, Maine. Both the Lowell All-Americans and the Sanford Mainers are part of the New England Baseball League (NEBL).

Dan Lacker, Jon Costa (Flushing, N.Y), Louie Bernardi (New Hyde Park, N.Y) and Preston Wasmund (Ajax, Ontario) remained in the area to compete for two teams in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL). Lackner, Costa and Bernardi are all playing for the Long Island Mustangs (www.limustangsbaseball.com), while Wasmund is playing for the Riverhead Tomcats (www.hamptonsbaseball.org) .

Sebastian Grazziani (Whitestone, N.Y.) and Mike Roth (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) are in Athens Georgia, playing for the Athens Pirates (www.athenspirates.com) in the Great South Baseball League.

George Carroll, who played for the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod Baseball League, is now playing for the New Market Rebels (www.rebelsbaseball.biz) of the Valley Baseball League.
