Cherutich breaks women’s 5K record at University of Albany Invitational
Albany, N.Y. (Oct. 17, 2009) – Freshman Jeptui Cherutich (Ravine, Kenya) continued her outstanding season as she finished third out of 193 competitors with a time of 17:42.6 at the University at Albany Invite on Saturday. Cherutich's time broke her previous school record which she set at the Running of the Bears Invitational on Spet. 19.
Sophomore Jackline Toek (Eldama Ravine, Kenya) has a great race as well, running a personal best time of 18:42.5 which earned her 36th place. Sophomore Yvonne Boinett (El Doret, Kenya) finished in 78th, running a personall best of 19:24.7.
Seniors Priscah Kiprop (El Doret, Kenya), 21:34.3, and Leslie Waller (Bel Air, Md.), 22:34.2, sophomore Zamirah Morgan (Brooklyn, N.Y), 24:21.2, and junior Jelissa Lyons (Wallkill, N.Y), 25:38.8, helped the womens team to a 15th place finish out of 24 teams.
Only two members of the men’s cross country team competed in the men’s 8K race; Cornelius Green (Huntington, N.Y.), who ran a time of 34:53 and freshman Mike Tyrell (Alberta, Canada) who finished with a time of 31:59.
