Molloy scores three second half goals to beat men's soccer3-2
Old Westbury N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2009) – The NYIT men’s soccer team lost to visiting Molloy College 3-2 this afternoon in East Coast Conference action. With the loss NYIT falls to 8-9 overall and 2-4 in the ECC, while Molloy improves to 7-8-1 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
The pouring rain throughout the first half made the playing conditions difficult, but the Bears struck first in 17th minute as junior Charles Paracat (Centereach, N.Y.) scored off a rebound in front of the net. Freshman Felipe Santos (Vitoria, Brazil) and senior Andre Lee (Montego Bay, Jamaica) assisted on the goal.
The weather started to let up in the second half, and so did the action. Molloy scored five minutes in the second half to tie the game at 1-1. Then at the 53:20 mark, sophomore Farah Toure (Prince George, Md.) was fouled in the box and he converted on a penalty kick to give NYIT a 2-1 lead. Six minutes later a Bears defender deflected the ball into their own net, tying the score at 2-2. Molloy’s Jose Batista headed in the game-winner off of a shot from Daniel Patino that bounced in front of the net.
The Bears travel to the University of Bridgeport for their regular season finale on Oct. 31 at 3 p.m.
