NYIT Department of Athletics Appoints New Head Women’s Basketball Coach
Old Westbury, N.Y., Oct. 2, 2009: New York Institute of Technology’s (NYIT) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation has named Anthony Crocitto the head women’s basketball coach. Crocitto comes to NYIT after spending the past two seasons as the top assistant coach for women’s basketball at Longwood University in Farmville, Va.
“I am extremely happy about the opportunity to direct my own program at NYIT,” said Crocitto. “I look forward to the challenges ahead as we strive to be the best in the ECC. The athletes, coaches, and I will work together to improve this program each and every day. I would like thank Director of Athletics Clyde Doughty Jr. and the rest of the women’s basketball search committee for their support and confidence.”
Crocitto, who brings 13 years of collegiate coaching experience to NYIT, has served as the recruiting coordinator for each college team he coached. Before joining Longwood, he served as assistant head women’s basketball coach at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando (2006-2007) after a two-year stint as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Hofstra University, Hempstead, N.Y. He has also held posts at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Mount Ida and Dowling College.
At UCF, Crocitto coordinated a recruiting class that included three national top 50 rankings and assisted with academic monitoring for the team, which maintained a GPA above 3.0. He helped accomplish the same academic successes with the Hofstra team, which finished 19-12 during the 2005-2006 year, when the school had its first post-season win at the Women’s National Invitational Tournament.
“It is with profound excitement that I announce the hiring of Anthony Crocitto as the next head women’s basketball coach of NYIT,” said Doughty. “He has tremendous vision and a working understanding of the East Coast Conference (ECC). With his extensive experience in coaching and recruitment, I strongly believe Anthony will develop a solid program that will be extremely competitive in the ECC.”
Crocitto has also served as head basketball coach at Holy Child High School in Westbury, N.Y. (1994-1996) and as director and head coach for both St. Martin of Tours Basketball program in Amityville, N.Y. (1989-1996) and Amityville Warrior AAU Basketball (1993-1996). He was head baseball coach at Walt Whitman High School in Huntington, N.Y. (1994-1996), La Salle Center in Oakdale, N.Y. (1997-1998), and at Bayport/Blue Point High School in Blue Point, N.Y. (1998-2000).
A native of Amityville, N.Y., Crocitto has a B.A. in management with a minor in psychology from Hofstra University. He and wife Kristin, an elementary education teacher, reside in Amityville with their eight-month-old daughter, Skai Grace.
