Crocitto hires Messina as new assistant coach
Old Westbury, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2009) - NYIT women's basketball head coach Anthony Crocitto announced the hiring of Brittney Messina as an assistant coach with the program. Messina joins second-year assistant Kerri Jetter on the staff.
“I am very excited to have Brittney join our women’s
basketball family,” said head coach Anthony Crocitto. “Her experiences will
clearly help our athletes and as a Long Island high-school star, she will help
us recruit. Britney comes from a great high school program and played for a
college coach whom I admire a lot.”
Messina enjoyed a stellar playing career at Massapequa High School, where she currently holds the records for most points scored in a career, most points scored in a season, most points scored in a game, most three pointers in a season and was the first junior in the programs history to reach the 1,000 point mark. She was named to the McDonald's All-American Top 100 High School Players team, and was selected as a First Team All-State, two-time First Team All-Long Island, and three-time All-County selection.
Messina received a scholarship to Seton Hall University we she played for two seasons, before her career was cut short due to an injury. She appeared in 52 games for the Pirates, averaging 6.3 points, 1.85 rebounds and as a freshman she led the team with 29 three pointers.
A graduate of Seton Hall University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Messina currently works as a care professional. She resides in Massapequa, N.Y..
