Women’s soccer defeats Molloy 2-1 on Senior Day

Old Westbury, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2009) – The NYIT women’s soccer team closed out the 2009 season with a 2-1 victory over Molloy College this afternoon in East Coast Conference action. With the win, NYIT finishes the year with a record of 7-10 overall and 3-4 in the ECC, while Molloy drops to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in conference.

The Bears started on the right paw for senior day scoring two goals in the first half. At the 31:02 minute mark freshman Heather Kasper (Port Jefferson Station) scored 15 yards away from a through ball by senior Meghan Sguigna (Bethpage, N.Y.) to make the score 1-0. Just three minutes later NYIT scored again when sophomore Ally Hallbig (Babylon, N.Y.) beat Molloy’s keeper to make the score 2-0.

For the majority of the second half NYIT played solid defense until Molloy scored at the 77:56 minute mark. The Bears defense stood tall as the Lions pressured in the final minutes, but could not find the back of the net.

Sophomore Kathryn Miller (Doylestown, P.A.) saw five shots and made four saves for her seventh win of the year.
