NYIT Students Are Global Business Champions

May 29, 2015

Stealthy teamwork, strong communication skills, and a sharp strategy to develop a $700 million simulated business enterprise propelled three School of Management students to excel at GLO-BUS, an online global business competition integrated into their NYIT coursework. Seniors Nicolas Jubera, Julio Pulido, and Jaime Gomez Bardon finished their final semester at NYIT on a high note when their team tied for first place five times during the seven-week competition this past spring.

The trio participated in the competition as part of NYIT School of Management's Business Policy and Strategy Seminar, a capstone course that provides students with hands-on experience in developing the leadership skills needed to succeed in the global marketplace. Their simulated challenge was to run a profitable company that sells digital cameras in four geographic regions: Europe-Africa, North America, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.

"Students applied their knowledge to the development of a business strategy and planned for its implementation," said Abram Poczter, professor of marketing, who teaches the course. "They learned to harmonize their company's marketing, operating, and financial elements. These are all best practices emphasized by the School of Management's curriculum."

Jubera, Pulido, and Bardon consistently topped the competition's overall performance category, which accounts for their company's high earnings per share, return on investments, stock price appreciations, and credit ratings.

In addition, the three teammates share another distinction—they all came to NYIT from Spain and competed as student-athletes for the Bears. Jubera and Pulido served on the NYIT men's tennis team; Bardon on the soccer team.
