B.F.A. in Advertising/Public Relations

B.F.A. in Advertising/Public Relations

The Advertising and public relations industries are projecting annual growth rates of 24 percent in the next few years. Employment of public relations specialists are also expected to rise 23 percent with advertising and public relations managers to grow 16 percent. According to The Bureau of Labor Statistics, the growth of both industries will be driven by the need for organizations to maintain their image in a high-information age and with the growth of social media.

Most industries require new hires in advertising and public relations to be proficient in social media management, research techniques and global advertising and public relations methods. As an NYIT Advertising and Public Relations major, you will become technically proficient early in your education. From freshman year through senior year you will hone your skills to meet the demands of the growing, ever-changing advertising and public relations industry. You will learn to devise strategies, and communicate your ideas. You may create press kits, brochures for a public relations campaign, or design ads in multi-media platforms for an advertising campaign. You may launch a successful social media campaign to engage consumers or encourage participation in an organization. You will prepare campaigns and professional presentations.

You will take some classes with our related majors in order for you to gain access to complex computer software and state of the art film, television and audio equipment to enhance your skills. You may choose from a variety of courses designed to meet the needs of the changing marketplace. These include: Advertising/Public Relations Research, Global Advertising/Public Relations and Social Media, E-Marketing; Fashion Communications, Healthcare Communications, Integrated Marketing Communications and Event Planning.

Our BFA in Advertising and Public Relations is unique as we embrace the 'experiential model,' which emphasizes 'real world' experience. As an Advertising and Public Relations major you will participate in workshops and production groups, such as the Carleton Group- our student-run advertising and public relations agency, and ProdCo- our student-run production company. You will choose from extensive internships; and guided projects; which will culminate in an e-portfolio of your student work.
