Humanities

Created from the merger of English, Social Sciences, and Interdisciplinary Studies, the Department of Humanities incorporates the Interdisciplinary Studies major and several minors. It also includes many Core Curriculum courses intended to help you hone your critical thinking and communication skills; engage in cross-disciplinary studies of creative expression and the imagination; appreciate the intellectual, historical, and political accomplishments of humankind; and understand the place of civic and social responsibility in our diverse, multicultural, and global new world.

Our major in Interdisciplinary Studies draws from disciplines across New York Tech, allowing you to build unique degree programs that correspond to your interests and academic backgrounds, with concentrations in fields ranging from management to fine arts. Our minors provide you the freedom to investigate ideas and practices outside of your chosen field. Our Core Curriculum courses and seminars provide the foundation for the rest of your studies and academic life.

As appropriate for a STEM-oriented university, our courses integrate emergent technologies and teach a variety of digital skills, including web-based research and career-oriented communication application. Course delivery is flexible and includes in-person, remote synchronous (Zoom), online (asynchronous), and combinations of these modes.
