This event is scheduled within the context of Master of Architecture course ARCH 791 Pioneering Technology in Architectural Practice: THE GROUND, taught by Professor Tom Verebes, PhD.

Dominik Holzer will present and discuss his latest book: Design Technology in Contemporary Architectural Practice where he lifts the curtain to unveil how eleven world-leading design studios integrate technology as part of their day-to-day design exploration and delivery. Dominik will offer insights about how these firms apply technology to purposefully disrupt and support their creative design processes. He will also scrutinise how Design Technology can get integrated on an organisational level, with its inherent cultural/organisational challenges and opportunities. Practices featured in the book include: Coop Himmelb(l)au / Foster + Partners / Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) / Zaha Hadid Architects / Diller Scofidio + Renfo / Heatherwick Studio / Morphosis Architects / SO-IL / Woods Bagot / Herzog & de Meuron / LASSA

The 25-30 minute presentation will be followed by a QnA sessions with the audience to explore some of the themes in more detail and discuss how the themes presented resonate with the experience of those present.

Associate Prof. Dominik Holzer researches and teaches at Melbourne University’s Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning. He is a highly regarded author, commentator, and presenter on Digital Practice, Building Information Modelling, and Net Zero Carbon Design. He published Design Technology in Contemporary Architectural Practice in 2023, and the BIM Manager’s Handbook in 2016.
