Biography
Thomas Zimmerman, D.O., F.A.C.O.F.P., teaches medical students about family medicine, electronic health records, medical interviewing, physical examination and diagnosis, and clinical management.
Previously, Zimmerman was the medical director of the academic health centers at NYIT's School of Osteopathic Medicine for two years. There, he managed a multi-specialty medical practice in two locations with 15 physicians, seven health professionals, and 17 staff members. He planned, managed, and trained staff for successful electronic medical records implementation to streamline office procedures, clinical documentation, and billing operations.
In addition to his teaching, Zimmerman is the founder and chief consultant for e-Med Consultants, LLC, a health information technology consulting firm that provides physician practices with unbiased guidance and advice in new technologies in healthcare. He also is the director of osteopathic medical education at South Nassau Communities Hospital.
Zimmerman lectures nationally and is active in public awareness and government affairs concerning osteopathic medicine. He earned his D.O. from NYCOM and bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Cornell University.
