How to Request Tutoring

Requesting a Tutor

Students seeking tutoring must:

  1. Complete the Online Request Form or visit the Learning Center on your campus
  2. The Learning Center staff will review the form and schedule you as soon as possible with an available tutor.
  3. You should request tutoring early in the semester so that you will have a better chance of receiving tutoring in the requested course(s) at a time that is convenient for you. Requests for tutoring are filled based on tutor availability.
  4. Tutorial assignments are made by the Learning Center graduate assistants, and every possible effort is made to match students (tutees) with available tutors as soon as possible. However, requests for tutoring in upper-level courses or specialized courses may be more difficult to fill. Students and tutors are notified of tutorial assignment through their NYIT e-mail.
  5. You should establish contact with your tutor as soon as you receive the e-mail assignment.  If you have not contacted your assigned tutor within a week of assignment, the center will assume that you no longer require assistance in the course.
