NYIT medical students, faculty, and staff from the College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM) raised more than $20,000 in March when they shaved their heads to support St. Baldrick’s Foundation, an organization committed to finding cures for pediatric cancer and helping survivors live healthy lives.
The 39-member team donned green capes and lined up outside the Downtown Café in Glen Cove, N.Y., to have their heads shaved. Eight female students had 10 inches of hair cut to make wigs for children with cancer.
Second-year student Gebe George organized the event, and NYCOM’s Pediatrics Club served as the main sponsor. In addition, several NYIT student organizations sold T-shirts, held bake sales, and presented a cultural show to help raise money for the charity.
