Student Advisory Board

The School of Management Student Advisory Board serves as the dean's main channel of communication with the school's student population. Reporting through the school's director of student advancement, interested students become familiar with and operate in the same manner as a professional board. This invaluable experience helps students develop leadership and team-building skills, gain familiarity with organizational protocol, and learn best-practice parliamentary procedures.

Student Advisory Board Mission Statement: The mission of the Student Advisory Board is to act as a voice and a conduit of students’ thoughts, ideas, needs, and to generate value-adding contributions in advancing the School of Management’s mission.

Overarching Description: Students, as board members representing all School of Management disciplines, are encouraged to freely express their opinions and suggestions. The board focuses on furthering the development of high-quality, career-advancing business education opportunities. The input of the board leads to continued program growth, effectiveness, and opportunities within the School of Management

Goal-Oriented: The Student Advisory Board is focused on achieving results that students will see during their time at NYIT. Meetings are held in a student-only environment, and officers are appointed with designated roles and responsibilities. Members are encouraged to be open-minded when expressing their ideas about what works well within the School of Management and what needs to be improved.

Report to the Dean: Upon the completion of each semester, board officials compile a report of student opinions and suggestions, as well recommendations for operationalizing their suggestions, to present to the School of Management Dean. The board works collaboratively with the Dean to affect continuous improvement.

Professional Growth and Development: Overseen by the School’s Associate Dean of Student Advancement programs, student board members become familiar with and operate in the same manner as a professional board. This invaluable experience helps students develop leadership and team-building skills, gain familiarity with organizational protocol, and learn best-practice parliamentary procedures.

Campuswide Support: Members and officers represent both the Old Westbury and Manhattan campuses, and are chosen from every major within the School of Management to ensure fair representation of all programs, departments, and campus life.
