Dr. Elizabeth Caron, Assistant Professor in the OMM Department at NYIT-COM, participated in D.O. Care's medical mission to Chacraseca, Nicaragua this past July. D.O. Care and their Nicaraguan partner Just Hope, participated in continued clinical care to this underserved agricultural area in Nicaragua. Dr. Caron was part of a medical mission that included Dr. Norman Vinn, the AOA president, Dr Stanely Grogg and Dr Tom Quinn. LECOM, Bradenton, FL was the organizing institution for this medical mission. Dr. Caron had the honor of treating many of the community leaders using Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM). Overall, the response to OMM was positive and the community leaders made a request to the Nicaraguan Health Ministry to have more missions that use this type of manipulation to help patients.
D.O. Care goes to Chacraseca regularly and works with the Nicaraguan Health Ministry to insure that there is follow up care for the patients involved in the mobile clinics that go to remote areas in the Chacraseca.
