NYIT Responds to Hurricane Katrina

<>
In response to the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina, we are working to identify short- and long-term ways in which NYIT community members can support the relief efforts.

NYIT has established a relief fund, as well as a Relief Coordinating Committee comprised of students, faculty and staff to plan related activities and projects. We invite your suggestions about additional ways we can assist in the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts -- send an e-mail to wecare@nyit.edu.

NYIT is currently in contact with a number of local and regional relief organizations. To learn more about volunteer opportunities or to donate funds to the American Red Cross, please contact the Office of Human Resources at 516.686.7667.

Five displaced students have already been admitted to NYIT (two of whom have already enrolled) and we are exploring various options to accommodate others in need.

We are also working with the New York State Education Department, the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities and other government and educational agencies and associations to coordinate initiatives.

Please appreciate that our response will be measured and prolonged as the tragedy affecting individuals and institutions will, unfortunately, be with us for some months and years to come. We will keep you informed of new initiatives and developments at NYIT.
