NYIT Appoints Two New Deans for Campus Life
Old Westbury, N.Y., Aug. 17, 2006: New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) has announced the appointments of Michael C. Sachs, J.D., and Frances M. Magee to dean for campus life. Sachs and Magee will serve as senior student affairs officers for the Manhattan and Old Westbury, N.Y., campuses respectively.
Sachs and Magee are responsible for the leadership and direction of various programs and services, including campus programming, counseling and wellness services, crisis management, first-year experience programs, housing and residential life, international education, judicial affairs, student activities, student advocacy, student government, and student organizations and leadership development.
“Michael and Frances are both seasoned student affairs professionals who bring a tremendous amount of talent to NYIT. Each has valuable experience directing student life programs and services, as well as building campus communities,” says Joe Ford, NYIT’s vice president for student affairs.
Sachs of New York, N.Y., earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California and is a member of the New York State Bar. He holds a Master of Arts in college and university administration from Michigan State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from the University of Southern California. Sachs brings almost 20 years of higher education experience to NYIT, most recently from Cornell University, where he served as associate director of housing at the Weill Medical College and Graduate School of Medical Sciences. Prior professional appointments include director of student services and international student services at New School University, Mannes College of Music and the New School Jazz and Contemporary Music Program; associate attorney with the law firm of Caro & Graifman, PC; residence hall director at Cornell University and the University of Southern California; and assistant area director and program coordinator at Michigan State University.
Magee of Forest Hills, N.Y., is completing her doctorate in higher and postsecondary education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She earned a Master of Education in counselor education and student affairs administration from the University of Virginia, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in communications and German from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. Magee has more than 15 years of professional experience and comes to NYIT from Columbia University, where she served as assistant dean for residential programs. She has held senior student affairs positions at Middlebury College and Randolph Macon Woman’s College.
