NYIT Announces Newest Member of Board of Trustees
Old Westbury, N.Y., Jan. 30, 2006: New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) today announced the election of Robert E. Evanson of Holmdel, N.J., to its Board of Trustees. Evanson is a 1985 graduate of NYIT.
Evanson is the retired president of McGraw-Hill Education, a $2.5 billion leading global provider of electronic and print products that enhance teaching and learning in the pre-K through 12th grade, higher education and professional markets. Previously, he served as president of McGraw-Hill’s Higher Education and Consumer Group and as executive vice president for corporate development for The McGraw-Hill Companies. Evanson joined Macmillan/McGraw-Hill School Publishing as executive vice president and chief financial officer in 1992.
During his career, Evanson led a number of key acquisitions, including Tribune Education, CBS Publishing Division, Times Mirror Higher Education, Appleton and Lange, and Mayfield Publishing. He also oversaw the start-ups of McGraw-Hill Home Interactive, McGraw-Hill Professional Development and McGraw-Hill Digital Learning.
Evanson has also held senior posts at Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Inc., including chief financial officer and chief executive officer of the Sea World Theme Parks, and was a partner at Arthur Andersen & Co. Since retiring in 2003, Evanson has served as a senior advisor to Apax Partners, Inc., a global private equity investment firm in New York, N.Y., and as special advisor to The Parthenon Group, a strategic consulting firm in Boston, Mass.

He will be invaluable as the college continues to refine its domestic and global academic programs and build upon its excellent reputation,” said Linda Davila, chair of the NYIT Board of Trustees. “We look forward to welcoming another successful alumnus to NYIT’s board.”
In addition to a master’s degree in business administration from NYIT, Evanson, a certified public accountant, earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from St. John’s University. He serves on the board of directors of The Princeton Review, Cadmus Communications Corporation, Public Education Needs Civic Involvement in Learning, and Western Governors University. Additionally, Evanson has served on the board of directors of Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Inc., the Association of American Publishers (chair) and the National School Boards Foundation.
