NYIT Appoints Vice President to New Office of Global Academic Programs
Old Westbury, N.Y., July 5, 2006: New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) announced today the appointment of David R. Decker, Ph.D., dean of the School of Management, to vice president of the college’s new Office of Global Academic Programs.
In this new role, Decker is responsible for the operations of all NYIT academic programs offered outside the United States and ensuring consistent quality of teaching, course offerings, student services and resources at all locations. Decker will continue to serve as dean of the School of Management until a national search for a successor is completed.
Global programming is a key element of NYIT’s strategic plan, which sets short- and long-term goals for the college. Currently, NYIT has global campuses located in Canada, China and the Middle East. Decker believes global expansion is a logical extension of the college’s mission to provide access to opportunity to all qualified students. “There are very few schools offering truly global programs,” says Decker. “NYIT has an opportunity to set the standard.”
To achieve this goal, NYIT President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., created the Office of Global Academic Programs to replace the college’s School of Extended and Global Education.
Decker, a resident of Huntington, N.Y., joined NYIT as dean of the School of Management in 2001. He has held faculty positions at five universities and has taught in Malaysia, Russia, China, Mexico, Brazil and Jordan. In addition, Decker has experience as a corporate executive, including three years as CEO of a leading manufacturing company.
Decker received a Bachelor of Arts from Grinnell College, a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in Spanish from the University of Kansas, and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and can also speak Russian. Decker is the author of two books, The Political, Economic, and Labor Climate of Colombia and The Political, Economic, and Labor Climate of Argentina. Additionally, he has authored numerous journal articles and has been a speaker at several academic industry events.
