NYIT Men’s Lacrosse Team to Play for Charity


Old Westbury, N.Y., Sept. 28, 2006: New York Institute of Technology’s (NYIT) men’s lacrosse team will participate in the inaugural Long Island Fall Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tournament, hosted by Molloy College, will be held at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex on Peninsula Boulevard in Rockville Centre, N.Y.

All proceeds raised will benefit the Nassau County Police Activity League (PAL) Special Needs Unit, a charitable organization that provides sports programs and activities for children with autism, down syndrome, and various learning and physical disabilities. It is the only PAL in the United States with a Special Needs Unit.

Other tournament participants include Division I teams, Duke University, Towson University, Rutgers University and Hofstra University; Division II team, Molloy College; Division III team, Springfield College; and the varsity club team from Brigham Young University (BYU). Twelve games are scheduled throughout the tournament on the north and south fields of the sports complex.

There will be a $5 entrance fee for spectators that will directly benefit the cause. Spectator parking will be available at Molloy College, Mercy Medical Center and along North Village Avenue–all within walking distance from the sports complex.
