NYIT Celebrates Achievements of Four Alumni at Brett Kaufman Scholarship Awards Dinner

Old Westbury, N.Y., April 10, 2007: The achievements of four New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) graduates were celebrated at the third annual Brett Kaufman Memorial Alumni Scholarship Awards Dinner last month. Proceeds from the dinner support the Kaufman Scholarship for alumni-sponsored undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate a commitment to community involvement and volunteerism. News 12 Long Island Reporter Shari Einhorn (M.A. ’94) served as master of ceremonies.

The Alumni Federation honored four NYIT graduates for their commitment to volunteerism and professional success. Awards were presented to:

Vincent Capasso, Ph.D., (M.P.S. ’81) of Coram, N.Y., director of safety, NYIT Central Islip campus, and national commander, U.S. Disaster Relief Command, winner of the Kaufman Volunteerism Award;

Patricia M. McMahon (B.S. ’86) of Babylon, N.Y., vice president and integrated product team leader, Northrop Grumman, winner of the Women in Technology Award;

Ralph A. Sepe (B.S. ’97), of Flushing, N.Y., partner, Chernoff Diamond & Co., LLC, winner of the Business Leadership Award; and

John V. Sullivan (B.S. ’82) of Oakdale, N.Y., principal and vice president, Delta Computer Services, Inc., winner of the Entrepreneurial Award.

The Brett Kaufman Memorial Alumni Scholarship was established in 1998 by NYIT’s Alumni Federation in memory of its former president, who passed away at a very young age. Kaufman, a 1976 NYIT graduate, served as president of the federation from 1993-96 and was a strong, effective alumni leader and volunteer for more than a decade. In honor of his commitment to the college and community service, the scholarship provides tuition assistance to incoming undergraduate and graduate students who are the children or grandchildren of NYIT graduates.
