NYIT Associate Dean for Campus Life Honored with APCA Leadership Award
Old Westbury, N.Y., April 4, 2007: Michael Burnett, associate dean for campus life and director of student activities at New York Institute of Technology’s (NYIT) Old Westbury, N.Y., campus, was honored with the 2007 Leadership Award from The Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA). Burnett received the award for his outstanding leadership and dedicated service to students, student activities, and for his encouragement and support of student leaders to continue their education through professional development.
“It is gratifying to know that my achievements at NYIT are appreciated and it is an honor to receive this distinguished award,” says Burnett, who recently presented and facilitated three educational sessions at APCA’s Northeast Programming Conference. “I have always believed the welfare of the students should come first.”
After serving as NYIT’s director of student activities for more than four years, Burnett went to work for his family’s interior design business, before returning to the college a year and a half later to resume his original position and was also appointed NYIT’s assistant dean for campus life. In 2004, he transitioned into his current role of associate dean for campus life.
Burnett, of Franklin Square, N.Y., earned his Master of Professional Studies in human relations and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in communication arts from NYIT.
