NYIT Wins Seven Awards for Multimedia and Marketing Creativity

Old Westbury, N.Y., Jan. 31, 2007: New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) has won seven awards—twoCouncil for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District II Accolades Awards, three Galaxy Awards and two International Davey Awards—for multimedia and creative marketing excellence. All winning entries were designed and developed through the college’s Office of Publications and Advertising.

NYIT earned a Gold CASE District II Accolades Award in the special events-individual events category for the creative designs of a showcase poster and note cards that commemorated the college’s 50th anniversary. In an effort to promote interdisciplinary interaction, students at each campus – including international sites – were challenged to submit artwork that represented NYIT’s history and academic achievements. After evaluating more than 1,000 entries, a Showcase Committee selected 12 winners. NYIT featured the winning entries on a poster and in a 12-pack of note cards with a unique package reflecting the innovative art work. CASE special events judge Liz McFarlane said the judging committee was “blown away by the use of student work.” The CASE awards honor creativity, originality and success in meeting stated objectives.

In addition, NYIT also won a silver award for the design of an informational booklet promoting the college’s Office of Career Services, within the category of student recruitment individual publications. As the largest international association of education institutions, CASE serves nearly 3,300 colleges, universities and independent elementary and secondary schools around the world. NYIT will receive its awards at the CASE awards gala in New York City, on Feb. 12, 2007.

NYIT’s multimedia branding efforts were honored with three 2006 Galaxy Awards in the interactive media category – a Gold Award for the college’s 50th anniversary video/DVD, 50 Years of NYIT, and a Silver Award for its undergraduate multimedia view book, NYIT Experience. As a Gold Award winner, NYIT also qualified for, and won, the Grand Award/Best of Interactive Media for the 50th anniversary video/DVD. Judging is based on the values of creativity, effectiveness, innovation, performance and success. The Galaxy Awards are sponsored by MerComm. Inc., an international organization dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of communications. It is the only competition that is judged by peers in the profession rather than editors and advertisers.

The 2006 International Davey Awards, which honor creative excellence and out-of-the-box thinking, also presented NYIT Experience with a Silver Award in the interactive multimedia-education category. The official logo art of the NYIT Bears also won a Silver Award in the corporate identity-logos category. The Davey Awards are presented by the International Academy of the Visual Arts (IAVA), an organization of top-tier professionals from media, advertising and marketing firms dedicated to embracing progress and the evolving nature of traditional and interactive media. The awards honor achievements that derive their strength from big ideas, rather than large budgets. The competition is judged by IAVA members.

“It is a great honor for NYIT to be lauded by its colleagues in higher education as well as international graphic designers, communicators, art directors and marketing professionals,” says Susan L. Warner, NYIT’s director of publications and advertising. “The acknowledgement of a job well done by such distinguished groups confirms that NYIT’s cutting-edge work continues to stand out in the competitive marketplace.”
