NYIT Director of Student Activities Honored with Latin@Network Latin@Network Service Award
Old Westbury, N.Y., June 4, 2007: Dennis Camacho, director of student activities at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) Manhattan campus, was honored with the 2007 Community Advancement Service Award from the Latin@ Network. Camacho received the distinction for being an outstanding practitioner in the field of student affairs and someone who has made significant contributions to the Latino community. He was presented with the award at the American College Personnel Association/National Association of Student Personnel Administrators joint conference in Orlando, Fla.
“It was a very nice surprise to have been given this award by a community that I’ve enjoyed working with since entering the field in 1999,” said Camacho. “It is a testament that the work I have done is noticed and it encourages me to continue to make strong contributions to the field of higher education administration.”
Camacho, of Uniondale, N.Y., has served as the director of student activities at NYIT’s Manhattan campus since October 2006. He previously worked as the assistant director of student activities at Hofstra University. He earned a dual Master of Arts in higher education administration and secondary math education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts and secondary education from Hofstra University.
The Latin@ Network is one of five networks in the Standing Committee on Multicultural Affairs (CMA) within the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). CMA serves as a liaison to ACPA’s leadership, focusing attention on issues in education and trends that affect ethnic students and professionals in the college student personnel field.
