NYIT to Host Health Fair and 5K Run
Old Westbury, N.Y., March 29, 2007: New York Institute of Technology’s (NYIT) School of Health Professions, Behavioral, and Life Sciences will host a Health Fair and 5K Run on Sunday, April 22 at its Old Westbury, N.Y., campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open to the public, the fair will offer free preventative health services and education programs to help promote a healthy lifestyle.
The health fair will feature a blood drive; basketball and tennis games; a Parkinson’s disease lecture; nutritional counseling; Pilates and karate demonstrations; screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, pulmonary disease, glucose and hearing; diabetic education and screening; and information about breast cancer prevention. Women will also have the opportunity to sign up for a free mammography through the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of NYIT.
The 5K run will begin at 9 a.m. on a USA Track and Field-sanctioned course. Runners can pre-register for $17 prior to Sunday, April 1, after which, the cost will be $20. The fee will be $22 on the day of the race. Check-in is at Runner’s Edge, 242 Main St., Farmingdale, N.Y., on Saturday, April 21 from noon - 5 p.m. or at NYIT’s Old Westbury, N.Y., campus from 7 - 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 22. Awards will be given to the best male and female runners, as well as the top finishers in each age group.
