NYIT Names Cyrus Reed Vice President For Global Programs As Its Global University Expands
“With his distinguished background as an educator and expert in international relations and public policy, Cyrus Reed brings an apt blend of experience and attributes to enhance NYIT’s growing programs and campuses abroad,” said NYIT President Edward Guiliano. “I have always believed that education is the currency that crosses borders and oceans, and brings solutions to civilization’s most complex challenges. In his new role, Reed will work with NYIT’s domestic and international academic deans and administrators to maintain and develop NYIT’s academic programs throughout the world. He will be responsible for the operations of all NYIT’s programs offered outside of the United States, including NYIT’s campuses in Vancouver, Canada; Amman, Jordan; Manama, Bahrain; and Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. Reed will also oversee NYIT’s new campus that opened on Oct. 8, 2007, in Nanjing, China. Earlier this year, NYIT also established a double-degree master’s program in human resource management with Tongji University in Shanghai, China.
Reed brings to NYIT more than 20 years of experience as an administrator and educator with specializations in international relations, comparative politics, public policy, and politics and development in Africa. Prior to his appointment at NYIT, he served as associate provost for international programs at the American University in Cairo (Egypt). There, he was responsible for the development of study-abroad programs, academic advising for international students, and international recruitment.
Earlier, Reed served as a tenured associate professor of political science and then as assistant provost for international education at Ball State University in Indiana and director of the international trade division for the Indiana Department of Commerce.
Reed received his doctoral degree from Indiana University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. He was a Rotary International Fellow in Cologne Germany and a Fulbright Fellow in Zimbabwe, Africa. He frequently publishes about Africa and education in such journals as the Africa Contemporary Record, Journal of Modern African Studies, African Studies Review, and African Development Perspectives.
