NYIT Becomes First American University Licensed in the United Arab Emirates

New York, N.Y., Oct. 30, 2007--Speaking before 16 Nobel laureates and 2,000 attendees at the “Festival of Thinkers” in Abu Dhabi last week, New York Institute of Technology President Edward Guiliano announced that NYIT has become the first licensed American university in the United Arab Emirates.

NYIT has been offering degree programs in the emirate of Abu Dhabi since 2005 at the invitation of Shaikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This past month, NYIT successfully completed the lengthy application and review process for formal licensure by the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research and also previously secured operating approval from the Abu Dhabi Education Council.

NYIT’s current offerings at its Abu Dhabi campus include programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science; Bachelor of Science in Information Technology; Bachelor of Science in Accounting; Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; Bachelor of Fine Art in Computer Graphics; Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design; Master of Business Administration; Master of Science in Computer Science; Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering; and Master of Science in Information, Network, and Computer Security.

All of NYIT’s co-educational classes are taught in English, following the same curriculum as its New York campuses, and are administered by 20 full-time faculty members supplemented by visiting NYIT faculty from New York. Enrollment currently stands at 350 students and is expected to grow to more than 1,500 within the next three years. The NYIT campus is located in the Center of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (CERT) Industrial Park, adjacent to the Higher Colleges of Technology Men’s Campus in Abu Dhabi.
