NYIT's Gallery 61 Presents "Works on Paper"

New York, N.Y., Dec. 15, 2008: New York Institute of Technology's (NYIT) Gallery 61 is honored to present its new "Works on Paper" exhibit, featuring work by current and past NYIT professors.

  • Hannes Brunner, the former chairman and coordinator of the computer graphics program at NYIT's Abu Dhabi campus, will exhibit "Deaf Lights." His installation consists of punched cardboard stencils glued on stretcher canvas and covered with black silk-representing loudspeaker boxes that have become a fixture in our interior landscapes. Their design, however, does not reveal their capacity to emit sound.

  • Charles Matz, visiting assistant professor of interior design at the Old Westbury campus, will show "Slow Journal," a portfolio of watercolors painted during his travels to Egypt, west Africa, and Puerto Rico. Using graphite and the natural flow of pigment, Matz's skilled hand has created images depicting the landscape, figures, and architecture indigenous to each area

  • Jean Pike, former professor of architecture and design at NYIT's Old Westbury campus, will exhibit "Undetermined Equilibrium," a group of drawings inspired by an analysis of onsite video of the Aug. 19, 2003 bombing of the United Nations Headquarters in Baghdad, in which UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Sergio Vieira de Mello lost his life. The subject is equilibrium, the body's sense of orientation, in the aftermath of a bombing … before the dust has cleared.

The exhibit will take place from Thursday, Dec. 11 through Thursday, Jan. 29 at NYIT's Gallery 61, located in NYIT's New Technology Building, 16 W. 61st St., Manhattan. Viewing hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
