Celebrating Student Achievements

October 17, 2022

New York Institute of Technology students have access to a valuable tool to help promote their accomplishments in and out of the classroom: Merit Pages. This online platform allows students to post academic and co-curricular achievements and activities in one location—accessible to parents, elected officials, high school guidance counselors, and hometown media outlets as well as peers, friends and family, and even potential employers.

This marks New York Tech’s fifth year leveraging the Merit platform to promote students’ accomplishments. In the 2021-2022 academic year alone, nearly 3,800 students were recognized for achievements; this news reached more than 1,200 media outlets and generated nearly 1.5 million social media impressions. Hundreds of local elected officials and high schools received news about these achievements, as well.

Returning students already have an established Merit web page that displays achievements entered by New York Tech’s strategic communications team, such as academic honor lists, graduation, and other institution-wide student milestones, or those added directly by students. Newly enrolled students for fall 2022 received a “Welcome to Merit” email earlier this semester alerting them that their page is established.

Achievements may include internships, academic awards, honor society inductions, community service, leadership achievements, scholarships, fellowships, and involvement in clubs and Greek life, among many others.

Engage with the Page!

Students are encouraged to personalize their Merit page by adding photos, listing additional achievements, such as research projects, club participation, and work experiences, and by connecting their Merit account to their own social media pages. Students also have the option of opting out of the Merit platform.

Throughout the academic year, students will receive an email and a link to their Merit page when New York Tech distributes an achievement that includes them. Merit helps make it easy for New York Tech students to share good news about their efforts as the makers and doers of tomorrow.
