12th Annual Energy Conference at NYIT Focuses on Energy and Ecology

From harnessing the power of water for energy to urban populations vulnerable to high temperatures, the NYIT (New York Institute of Technology) 2017 Energy Conference promises a comprehensive look at protecting the Earth’s fragile resources.

The June 15 conference at the NYIT de Seversky Mansion will feature eight experts discussing strategies for a more sustainable, energy-efficient infrastructure. With an interdisciplinary approach, panelists will touch on urban design, engineering, and social approaches to energy-related issues from developed communities and college campuses spanning Long Island to Brazil.

The event’s speakers include:

  • Nada Marie Anid, Ph.D., dean, NYIT School of Engineering and Computing Sciences
  • Robert N. Amundsen, Ph.D., CEM, DGCP, LEED AP BD+C, associate professor and director of the M.S. in Energy Management Program, NYIT School of Engineering and Computing Sciences
  • Christopher A. Cavanagh, PE, principal program manager, New Energy Solutions, National Grid
  • Amanda Ludlow, principal scientist, Roux Associates
  • Peter J. Marcotullio, Ph.D., director, CUNY Institute for Sustainable Cities (CISC)
  • Sarah Meyland, J.D., associate professor, Environmental Technology, NYIT School of Engineering and Computing Sciences
  • Regiane Relva Romano, Ph.D., general faculty coordinator, de Engenharia de Sorocaba (FACENS), Brazil
  • Edward Romaine, supervisor, Brookhaven Town

Among the presenters are two faculty members from NYIT School of Engineering and Computer Sciences (SoECS). Nada Marie Anid, Ph.D., Dean, SoCES, will discuss the need for sustainable practices in economic development and entrepreneurship, and the ways in which the NYIT’s Entrepreneurship and Technology innovation Center (ETIC) supports this goal. Groundwater specialist Sarah Meyland, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Environmental Technology, SoECS will present on the the Long Island Energy-Water Nexus and how water is used to produce energy.
