New York, NY – An NYIT architecture faculty member has been recognized for leading one of the most innovative new architecture firms in New York City.

Tobias Holler, AIA, assistant professor of architecture, won the New Practices New York Award this week from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in New York for his firm, HOLLER architecture. It is one of seven firms chosen among 50 applicants, all of which were founded within the past five years.

HOLLER architecture was recognized for its innovative projects, as well as an emerging practice. The jury praised Holler's research and design work as a "refreshing systems approach to sustainability." LIRR Long Island Radically Rezoned, one of Holler's research projects developed in collaboration with an NYIT student, alumna, and others, was the people's choice winner in the international Build a Better Burb Competition in 2010, in addition to winning other accolades.

Holler's work will be featured with the other six honorees in an exhibition and lecture series this summer at the Center for Architecture in Manhattan. He will also be participating in the AIA's national convention.
