Program Overview:
The Summer M.B.A program at NYIT's Manhattan campus -- steps away from Columbus Circle, Times Square, Central Park, and all that the city has to offer -- is designed for international graduate students who want in-depth knowledge of New York City as a global financial capital. And, while they are experiencing a vibrant summer in New York City, participants can earn three or six credits toward their M.B.A. degree. Program highlights for all participants include:
- a tour of the United Nations
- a walking tour of Wall Street and NYC's Financial District
- a visit to the Museum of American Finance
- a Circle Line cruise around Manhattan
- a visit to the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island
- Broadway theater
- and a guided tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art
Students also choose one or both of the following courses:
- MGMT 601: The Environment of Business Enterprise with Dr. Steve Hartman. Using as a case study the collapse of the NYC financial industry and its impact on the local economy, this course will focus on management problems arising from domestic social changes and on the relationship between business enterprise and society, particularly as reflected in the growth of consumerism and government involvement. Study tours will include visits to Broadridge Financial Solutions and Bloomberg Corporation, where tours and presentations by company management will offer students an insider's perspective on the complex yet interdependent relationship among business, politics, and culture in difficult times.
- ECON 710: Macroeconomics with Dr. Krishnamur Chandrasekar. Students will visit the Federal Reserve Bank, where students will get a glimpse of the world's largest accumulation of gold and learn firsthand about the United States central banking system. The course will focus on the relationship involving consumption, investment spending, the impact that government and international economic transactions have on the economy, and the special role that money and interest rates play in determining output and employment levels. Students will analyze and discuss the phenomena of productivity and economic growth. The current financial crisis, its implications, and the macroeconomic policy response will be discussed.
It is the student's responsibility to determine his/her home institution's policies regarding credit transfer. Certificates of completion will be distributed to all participants at the conclusion of the summer program, provided they have successfully completed the requirements.
