Web Developer

Responsibilities

New York Institute of Technology seeks a Web Developer to oversee the full lifecycle of development activities for the College’s websites. Under the direction of the Director of Web Services, the Web Developer will design, develop, and maintain all programs, scripts and databases; assist with the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of all application environments; implement, configure, and maintain content management systems; perform needs assessment, solution formulation, design, recommendation, and implementation of web programming activities and projects. More specifically, the Web Developer will plan, architect, design, develop, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot all web-based applications, scripts and databases; install, setup, and configure all web-based application and development environments, including Apache web server, PHP/Symphony/MySQL suite and environment, and the content management system; develop new web applications as required through frameworks such as Drupal, Expression Engine, Liferay and customized applications; maintain and enhance existing web applications, forms, and pages; perform unit and system testing of web applications; design and implement user-driven templates, databases and interfaces; prepare documentation for all developed applications and workflows.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and a minimum of five years of relevant experience required. Experience with installation, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, and management of Apache web servers, MySQL, PHP, Symphony, content management server (such as Drupal or Joomla) is required. Demonstrated experience with medium to large-scale website development and management and proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, AJAX, JSON also required. The successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in scripting languages such as Perl, PHP, Phyton, Ruby and in developing and maintaining applications in Apache, PHP, and MySQL environments. Project management, knowledge of Java, especially Eclipse-based development, and jQuery or Liferay and hand-coding experience preferred. Previous experience in a higher education environment is strongly desired. Must be available to work holidays, weekends and evenings and provide on-call coverage after business hours on a routine rotation basis and for special projects.
