NYIT-Bahrain Student Filmmakers Donate Profits to Charity

NYIT-Bahrain Student Filmmakers Donate Profits to Charity

While NYIT-Bahrain's latest student-produced feature, Silveraven, played to sold-out audiences at the Seef Mall Cineplex, the importance of community and service was not lost on the cast and crew.

“The point of making the movie was to give the proceeds to the charity the Red Crescent,” says the film's director, Samar Osama Karkar, explaining that the team also sold DVDs of an accompanying student-produced music video to boost their charitable donation. NYIT-Bahrain Campus Dean Suzanne White, Ph.D., presented a check for 1000 Bahraini Dinars to the Executive Director of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society, who in turn awarded the filmmaking team honorary membership in the society.

“NYIT is the only institute in Bahrain to produce feature-length movies that not only help students learn the challenges of filmmaking but also support a good cause,” explains Zeeshan J. Shah, assistant professor of Fine Arts and Computer Graphics, and supervisor of the Silveraven project at NYIT-Bahrain.“Their efforts showed the whole region that there are young talents in the world who can go beyond their abilities, and hopefully they can motivate others to do the same.”
