Sustainability: Going for the Green

NYIT is firmly committed to environmental sustainability in research and practice. Students and faculty took the lead in alternative energy research in the early 1970s, and today our global campus "green print" initiatives include forward-thinking academic programs, global conferences, solar and biodiesel research, and recycling efforts. It's part of what NYIT President Edward Guiliano has called a "sustained focus on sustainability."

NYIT School of Engineering participates in Climate Change March, New York City

On the occasion of United Nations Climate Summit, where world leaders from 120 countries discussed strategies for the formulation of new global climate treaty, a large group of NYIT faculty, staff and Energy Management and Environmental Technology and Sustainability students got opportunity to be the part of one of the People's Climate Change March on Sunday September 21, 2014. The biggest such march in the world, which started right by NYIT’s Manhattan campus at Columbus circle and ended at 34th street 11th Avenue. Graduate student Neetu Singh noted that “was one of the most extraordinary mobilizations he has ever been associated with. It was an example of socialization, a moment of pride of being united, and a clarion call for passionate activism going forward crowd for regulations on greenhouse gas emissions. This event was a huge fusion of humanity for a common concern- We have only one earth, save it.” Over 300,000 people and over 40 groups including Indigenous People, Mountaintop Removal, Save the Arctic, Food and Water Justice and Hurricane Sandy- and other climate impacted populations participated in the march.
