Exercise Physiologist Encourages Increasing Mobility

December 17, 2024

Alexander Rothstein, Ed.D., coordinator and instructor for the Exercise Science, B.S. program, is quoted in a CNET article about the importance of mobility and setting new fitness goals for improved range of motion. Mobility, the ability to move purposefully throughout the day, is critical for better posture, muscle function, and injury prevention, among other benefits. Without it, one may struggle to perform daily activities such as bathing, eating, dressing, and walking.

“During youth, our body tissue tends to be more supple and responds better to novel stressors, so we tend not to see the loss of mobility as quickly,” says Rothstein, who suggests using a soft mat and a stretch strap when working on stretching muscles and improving flexibility.
