Meet the Alumni Internet Radio Hosts
February 11, 2015
When Matt Candela (B.F.A. '07) and John Nuzzi (B.F.A. '07) launched their weekly Internet radio show, they tapped a longstanding ambition nurtured in their student days. The duo behind That'll Play with Matt & John discuss the show's content, how their NYIT education influenced their professional life, and new things planned for 2015.
What topics and people have you covered?
Film, music, technology, and topical news. We've interviewed Jessica Howell from the TV show Masters of Sex and Sophia Eptamenitis, director of Roku's Web series What Exit? We deliver thought-provoking content while also having a laugh or two.
Did your NYIT education help to shape your career path?
We got hooked on the idea of creating an Internet radio show while producing an earlier version of That'll Play for WNYT, NYIT's radio station. After graduation, we pursued careers in other fields (Matt as a graphic designer at Hoop Magazine and Purity Products; John as a motion capture animator for Rockstar Games), but we stayed in touch and often discussed doing an Internet radio show. In spring 2014, we finally took the leap.
What do you have coming up in 2015?
We'll debut several shorter, mini episodes to air in addition to our weekly show.
How can I tune in?
That'll Play is available as a podcast. You can also stream the show on iTunes, Stitcher, TuneIn Radio, or Player FM. Check out our interviews with Michael Paul Smith and Gillian Pensavalle, co-creators of the Web series The Residuals, on YouTube: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.
Parts of this Box Blog interview were first published in NYIT Magazine's Winter 2015 issue. Are you a graduate? Submit your alumni note. The spring issue is already underway; notes are due March 12, 2015.
